
Theodore Bowe, MD, is a fellowship-trained vitreoretinal surgeon and physician specializing in the evaluation and treatment of a wide range of vitreoretinal conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments, complex retinal disorders, and dislocated intraocular lenses. Dr. Bowe provides both medical and surgical care, including intravitreal injections, laser procedures, and advanced vitreoretinal surgery.
Dr. Bowe believes that clear communication and patient understanding are central to achieving the best possible outcomes. He takes care to ensure that each patient feels informed, comfortable, and confident throughout their care experience.
Dr. Bowe earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, followed by fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Mid-Atlantic Retina/Wills Eye Hospital. Through training at leading institutions and high-volume centers, he gained extensive experience in the medical and surgical management of complex retinal diseases.
Dr. Bowe has authored numerous book chapters and original manuscripts and has published in leading journals, including Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Journal of Vitreoretinal Diseases.
A native of Cape Elizabeth, Dr. Bowe is proud to return home to Maine with his wife and children. Outside of medicine, he enjoys spending time outdoors, exploring Maine with his family, and playing basketball.
Dr. Bowe will begin seeing patients in August 2026 and is now accepting new patients.
